Great writing! Out here in the Texas hinterland we call each other by name or “hey friend” and give a hug and/or a hand shake, no matter the background, sex, age, color or whatever….
And that’s how we see each other, as neighbors. I wish Democrats loved this country and its people just a bit.
I love this so much. And yes, Character, morals, and work ethic, it doesn't get better than that. Substacker Chris Bray did a piece commenting on this book as well along with another entitled Attack from Within: How Disinformation is Sabotaging America. Equally nauseating. And 100% , I myself can not wait for reality to come back. Great piece.
It sickens me to hear that especially considering we live in a country where the first amendment of our constitution explicitly bestows us the right to free speech. WTF is going on!? Although my reach is minuscule, by choice, I get your work out where I can.
First of all, the important part: you got a new sub here.
Second of all, you are spot on about it being an Urban v Rural divide. I live in a biggish rural area, in that my town/city is around 100K. But I live on the edge of the city/town and I regularly ride my bike past many, many farms. Many at my church are farmers. I, for one, reject city values. Call it all the phobic, I don't care. I just reject the entire notion and worldview. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks...

Both parties have gone insane, just on different issues.
Democrats believe in open borders that destroy cities (says the mayor of NYC) and working class wages, that people can change their biological sex that destroys the rights of women to privacy and fair sports competition and encourage the sterilization of children as "gender affirming care". They encourage homelessness, crime, and endless deficits. They discriminate against Asians and poor whites seeking education. Their leadership consists of an addled old man and a vacuous, word salad spouting, DEI selected idiot.
Republicans deny the climate change that threatens humanity, denounce the vaccines that reduce deaths from disease, believe that this ( . ) is a 👶 which destroys women's futures, and support a sociopath for president.
Stand your ground Dave. Anyone who thinks Trump is a legitimate candidate and not a con man and a criminal and that the Republicans are any better is flat out delusion. When the Republicans gut every safety net, demolish all labor laws, deregulate every single thing protecting the average American Joe, their tune will change. Oh, and, just a gentle reminder--you're wasting your breath. You see how fast it devolved into name calling, the last resort of those lacking any argument.
Do you care about constistency or life? And your point is logically flawed and you know it. Seriously dude, you're just ill.
And maga buddies? Lol. You've no proof of anything maga on me yet yes, I adhere to MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Unlike your pool of turds who wants to make America third world again.
If you believe in those things by all means change your life to an ecological one, and choose what you put in your body.
The issue isn’t your ideological beliefs, the issue is whether you believe in civil liberty and the right of others to believe and choose something else
nobody I know who virtue signals about climate change has gotten rid of their car to live off the land and raise their own food .
You all just think taxes and mandates will fix problems.
Stop eating sugar, flour, and processed foods. Stop smoking. Stop driving and walk everywhere.
It isn’t up to govt and other people to save you from your own poor choices
The sentiment you express of feeling most out of place in the wealthier, gentrified urban areas tracks 1000% with my experience as a white male. I can connect, and have connected, with people of various tribes and backgrounds in working-class contexts, and it's relatively easy to find common ground. Not so with the folks who “come from money.” There are a million subtle and not so subtle status markers that matter much more to them than who you are as a person or what ideas or interests you have. If it wasn't for the divide and conquer strategies employed by the bankster cabal, the workers of America would probably get along pretty well.
“Typically conservative, Christian, straight heterosexual, hard-working, pro-life, free speech, gun owners & God-fearing.” And also generally the most accepting of those who do not fit those categories. They keep themselves to themselves, and won’t tread on you if you don’t tread on them.
Mr Stephens, thank you for a very informative piece. I live in a suburban area where black Americans are fleeing the urban jungle for the suburbs. Ok…but many of the black women (and men, but the women are the serial voters) here just follow the democrazy drivel of reparations and victimhood. The major city around us (Chicago) is controlled by failed teacher and public service unions. It all seems to be about controlling our tax money for the benefit of the anointed few and the race-baiting grifters. Along with the white women who virtue signal with the “luxury beliefs” they think actually benefit anyone but the politically connected these two groups make a formidable voting block. These are the people who set us back and need to change their vision. Many of the rural folk you allude to want to see results; that’s why they vote the way they do. I’ve lived in city and suburban and rural environments in my 7+ decades and those in Washington are the ones who benefit and have kept us apart. The controlled national media fogs the truth and the fatigue is evident in the discourse we hear. I have no single, simple solution, but there are many things that should draw us more together. Nothing good will happen if we stay apart. Good luck.
Seriously, thank you. We are leaving western WA state for a more sane area soon. Check out the WA state bill SSB 5247 for some crazy inquisition level craziness
I disagree about Ukraine in that I think Putin is a genuine threat that ought to be taken out. But I absolutely think that the Europeans are the ones who need to pull on their big boy pants and pony up for the weaponry required. The US should supply weapons that others pay for.
Correct, I am a big boy - I can handle being cursed at and called names. You go girl.

I see a book title for you in this piece!
Thanks kindly. Balls and strikes here.
Love it!
"Joy Reid and her colonialism induced blonde wig." 😆😆😆🤯
Laughing is therapeutic. And it is a factual statement. LOL

Thanks for your support. I see nothing phobic about it, just an attribute of free will.

A pox on both their houses.
Ain't nobody ever said stupid privledge was party specificf, just look at Hamilton v. Jefferson on Haiti. Both Federalist. You speak as a sage sir.
Refreshing to read someone just bring up federalist and interacine warfare in a single sentence. You sir, are a joy to read.
Thanks didn't think much of it but flattered to k n now you enjoyed it. Than you kindly.

You started as that dot at one point and now have a voice. Why can't another dot.
Asshole
And now all your MAGA buddies are scrambling to allow the incineration of actual fetuses to protect IFV. Consistent much?
Jerk.

Seek help.
I will take your advice under consideration.

That means they would do something, and believe what they say they believe in. It's all phoney.
Yea mane, insanity is the new 4-3-7 double play.
4-3-7 double play?
i played about 10,000 innings oif baseball when i was a kid,
and i can only take a wild guess or two what that refers to?
wait, let me google that!
nope.
came up empty.
I made it up to reflect the level of insanity
Thanks for explaining. I concur heartily with your assessment of what would make America Great Again. It SHOULD be so simple!
Now how do we get your common sense, down to earth message out to the masses? Thank you for writing what so many believe.
That is the conundrum. Reckon common sense ain't common.
How many of your Morehouse classmates have come around to thinking like this? We hear rumblings about change. I'm hoping.
Not enough for the alma mater of MLK Jr.. & Herman Cain - but more than past years.

A common sentiment at that. Likely reflective of 80 percent plus the nation.

What would a ultra progressive state be without useless over regulation, price gouging and red tape? Lunacy.
Was born and raised there many years ago and won’t live there now for sure.
I can understand why..
I give bidet a 2. He was stoned
LOL.....one for each pill.
I agree with about 99% of this.
I disagree about Ukraine in that I think Putin is a genuine threat that ought to be taken out. But I absolutely think that the Europeans are the ones who need to pull on their big boy pants and pony up for the weaponry required. The US should supply weapons that others pay for.
I can respect that but I think the loot should at best stay in the pockets of US Citizens and worse. Spent in the US of A.
The US Military doesn't work for tribute. That would be Rome and they collapsed from corruption. Try to pay attention 🤣
If longevity is the goal then maybe the U.S. Military should work for tribute.
The Roman Republic lasted 500 years and the Empire in the West lasted another 450 or so years afterwards.
The Eastern half of the Empire lasted another 1,000 years after the fall of the West, finally succumbing to the Turks at Constantinople in 1453AD.
509BC to 1453AD was a pretty good run.
We haven’t made it 250 years yet….
Hoping we make it to 2030.
The US military should have nothing to do with it. US defense contractors on the other hand should.
TRUTH!
