I wanted to write about the State of the Union address, but I could not. I gave Biden an 80 but for me, it was like grading a student who cut all of their classes for a week for one test - which is a low water mark in itself. Instead, I will speak on this new book, which I admit I have not read, called White Rural Rage: The Threat to American Democracy by Tom Schaller & Paul Waldman.
This is the key to wisdom, not age or any other dumbshit, but rather admitting what I don’t know and how much of a dumb fck I am. First not to point out the obvious, it does not take too much creativity to take an existing book title (White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide by Carol Anderson) and put in a new adjective to make a seemingly new book title. Like I said and admit, I did not read the book but did see (thanks to Rumble) an interview by the authors on MSCCP.
Now from what they said, or intimated, only white people in rural areas had a problem with their perspective of who is appropriate to be rewarded by their vote. The reasons they mentioned made no sense to me, being a person living in a rural city of 4000 in South Georgia. It was all rooted in white male rage. Supposedly, white rural rage is rooted in white male Islamaphobia, gayphobia, transphobia, and whatever phobia and thus a threat to democracy. Strangely, I have never seen any rural person fear, gay folk, trans folk, or Islamic folk. True they fear Islamic terrorism but unlike the city elite know-it-alls, we do not generalize it to all Muslims.
I admit further, that I agree with all of the above, I believe that biological males do not need to compete with biological girls in sports. I believe that criminals should be locked up. I believe that illegal immigrants who cross the border should be arrested. These thoughts are not xenophobic, racist, or anti-gay. If it is by elite proclamation, then I have learned that I am a white rural citizen filled with rage.
I do not see these beliefs as being race-specific to rural folk like myself. I was infuriated seeing these cats and reduced the authors of the book to being clueless snobs. The interview said more about the authors’ bigotry than that of the people they’re demonizing. To generalize the rural Americans - who grow our food, drive our trucks, and are often the first to serve in our military - is an arrogant and ungrateful way of seeing other human beings.
It's the smug attitude while being completely wrong that gets me. Complete misread on conservative voters (which are not all Republicans), and the fact that Trump can't have this much traction off of white votes alone. Glossing over the fact that there is zero enthusiasm for any Democrat, while Donald J Trump is igniting faith, that things will get better. I'm a right-leaning independent, black, and these people sicken me. I need Trump to win as the gigantic middle finger he was to the establishment in 2016.
Seems that liberals always decide what white, rural people are thinking, while they sit at home and talk to each other. Why don't they interview white rural people? Why don’t they interview Black, Asian, Caribbean, or Latino rural folk? In rural communities, 99 percent of people you meet couldn't care less about skin color. Character, morals, and work ethic, that’s what rural America cares about. Of course, every group had its undesirables, but to write an entire group over 2 or 3 idiots makes zero sense.
The Black man in me can accurately state that we are angry because we see our country move away from a merit-based society to one that gives preferences to people based on race and gender. We are angry because we see our country in chaos with the borders open and no consequences for people who break the law. Yes, it is the economy stupid, but do not forget that criminal illegal immigration is both an economic and crime issue.
We do not like the fact that the present administration is willing to sell off its 1-million-barrel Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve in the fiscal year of 2024. This is selling off one million barrels of refined petroleum product from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. So if it is rural white rage, that must make Texas (mainly Hispanic), Chicago, and NYC (albeit urban) bastions of neo-nazi sentiment. Their logic is suppositional and imaginary.
It is not racist to think that the Mexican drug cartels should not be controlling the US southern border. As a Christian and a non-Bible-thumping rural voter, the prejudice from so many people against people who live like I do is expected. This kind of treatment was prophesized by Jesus 2000 years ago. We are expecting it and expecting it to get worse. Anyone who knows Scripture can tell you that "race" isn't even a thing. Let them continue to show their true colors (no pun intended). People like Joy Reid will have to explain their hatred one day, and Jesus won't be impressed with her job title, excuses, education, or blonde colonialism-influenced wig.
I find it comical and would like Joyless “anti-LGBTQRSTV” Reid to explain why Trump is appealing more to black and Hispanic voters than any Republican presidential candidate in decades. It's ridiculous that they make this out to be anything but voting for reality to come back. We're sick and tired of this clown show they call an administration.
To say I live in a very rural and white “trump country” would be an understatement. The fact remains, for me, these are good people, with legitimate reasons they can explain for their support of Trump. I’m sick and tired of hearing the left make wild, unfounded accusations about these people, who I know to be good and decent people. They have every right to be angry.
To be honest, as the black male, it has been the working-class rural white Americans who have been more cordial and accepting of all folks. The places I've felt most "out of place" are when I've tried to participate in the activities in the wealthier, gentrified urban areas. These people, if they have a problem with minorities, may not be the most vocal, but they control access to certain spaces. And when you're not welcome, they may not openly say it, but you know it.
These authors remind me of the woman who asked why the United States needs farms when people get their food at stores. They set trip for Democrats and yet have an openly amazing capacity for hypocrisy. There are a lot of people in the cities who have contempt for people in rural areas. The cities are Democrat, but the rural areas are Republican. The real political divide in this country is rural vs urban. Rural people are usually more resilient and able to live independently of the system. They are a threat to authoritarian control, and that’s for sure.
Probably the kindest, most helpful, most trustworthy group in this country are rural folk. Typically conservative, Christian, straight heterosexual, hard-working, pro-life, free speech, gun owners & God-fearing. What is wrong with this and why is it considered by cats who do not change their oil on their car or patch up drywall as threatening to democracy?
I can’t even fathom the complete lack of self-awareness of these people. If you substitute urban black people, how does that go over? Complete contempt is an understatement! Imagine if someone wrote a book called "Black Urban Rage". The idea that lefties - like BLM, Antifa, MSNBC, the DSA, the Harvard faculty, and Keith Olbermann - are accusing conservatives of being angry is both tragic and hilarious.
These folk consider facts to be inconvenient. I mean, does anyone else notice that the organizations and nations with "Democratic" in their name aren't Democratic? German Democratic Republic (East Germany), the Somali Democratic Republic, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam), the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (South Yemen), the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, the People's Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and the Democratic Party.
In a time when a college education provides people less than ever in terms of the ability to critically think, college-educated people become more pompous and elitist. I have a few pieces of fancy college paper in frames and am constantly shocked at the lack of basic thinking skills among college students/graduates... even news people.
Speaking five languages, Morehouse degree and my PhD aside, we "uneducated" people they are referring to (farmers, mechanics, construction workers, truck drivers, etc) are far more intelligent than them. It reminds me of a comedian named Jerry Clower, to paraphrase who once said "These people are educated beyond their intelligence" referring to elitist fools.
So I can calmly admit, them cats talking about me also and hundreds of thousands of other folks. We do not give a fck about Ukraine, we have no real or emotional connection. That is a war between Putin and the US State Department. Moreover, we do not ascribe to the proposition that we have to destroy democracy to save democracy. America first mutha fucka - all us, can you dig it? And by the way, making America great again means that, back to a time when I heard no gunshots in my hood, there were no car jackings, fathers were in the homes and old folk did not have to fear yougins. I’m cool with that.
Correct, I am a big boy - I can handle being cursed at and called names. You go girl.
Great writing! Out here in the Texas hinterland we call each other by name or “hey friend” and give a hug and/or a hand shake, no matter the background, sex, age, color or whatever….
And that’s how we see each other, as neighbors. I wish Democrats loved this country and its people just a bit.
I see a book title for you in this piece!
